Kävin torstai-iltana työpäivän päätteeksi Jyväskylän olutmekassa Vihreässä Haltiattaressa nauttimassa jotain kivaa hyvää. Ensimmäisellä kerralla luulin tietäväni mitä haluan, mutta menin lukkoon ja otin hanasta saksalaista Oktoberfest-olutta, jota olinkin jo maistanut aiemmin. No, onneksi seuraava oli parempi.

Yleensä en jälkiarvioita kirjoita, mutta tämä oli erikoisuudessaan huomionarvoinen tapaus ja muistan melko hyvin jälkikäteenkin maun ja fiilikset oluesta.

Etutiskin pulloista osui silmään Weird Bearin K*ntish Town BearD sekä nimensä että etikettinsä puolesta. Olut oli sen verran erikoisen oloinen, että päätin kokeilla. Baarinpitäjällä oluesta ei ollut mitään tietoa, muuta kuin että kyseessä on vehnäinen olut. Ei näyttänyt ihan miltään hefeltä, eikä liioin witiltäkään, joten päätin piruuttani pistää menemään. Tältä panimolta en olekaan aiemmin oluita maistanut. Kyseessä on kohtuullisen pieni, mutta arvostettu lontoolaispanimo.

This beer is bottle conditioned, please store upright, chill lightly before serving and pour carefully to ensure the yeast remains in the bottle.

About the Beer

Originally brewed with the staff from Brewdog Camden, this collaboration bore the name Camden BearD but a moderately large and well known Kentish Town based brewery ’politely’ informed us they owned the word Camden. We are still relatively small, and couldn’t afford to fight them in court. So in their honour we have renamed the beer K*ntish Town BearD. Note the spelling, just in case they own that geographical location too.

An American Wheat Pale Ale with Williamette, Cascade and Centennial in the boil, giving a slight spiciness in complement the wheat. But it wouldn’t really be a Weird Beard vs. Camden Bar beer without some dry hops, and this beer does not disappoint with copious amounts of Centennial and Cascade added to the fermenter.

Either way, we like this beer so much, we added it to the Weird Beard Family of beers.

Pöytään istuttuani kaadoin olutta hiljalleen lasiin. Tuoksu oli miellyttävän hedelmäinen ja raikas. Vaahtoa tuli pieneen lasiin sen verran, että jouduin jättämään reilusti yli puolet pulloon. Maku oli ensialkuun erittäin ipamainen, mutta kuitenkin enemmänkin mausteinen ja yrttinen. Vasta jälkimaussa tuli hyvin vahvastikin vehnän maku esille.

Erittäin nautittava olut, mutta erikoiset ristiriidat mättävät jotenkin henkilökohtaisesti. Oluessa on käytetty pale alelle ja ipalle tyypillisiä Cascade- ja Centennial -humalalajikkeita, mutta pohjassa on silti vehnää. Hämmentävä kokonaisuus, jossa kirpeys ja sitruksisuus dominoi, vehnän punkiessa esiin joka maistelukerralla hieman oudosti. Erikoinen ja hieman totuttelua vaativa setti, mutta oikein hyvä olut, jota kannattaa kokeilla jos tulee tilaisuus!
